Microsoft DreamSpark comes to India
DreamSpark is a program set up by Microsoft to provide students with software design and development tools at no charge. The program was originally directed at college students, but now it has been expanded to include high school students. The DreamSpark program was announced by Bill Gates on February 19, 2008 during a speech at Stanford University.A video interview with Bill Gates is also available. It is estimated that up to 35 million students will be able to access these software titles free of charge through this program.

Verification of valid student status will enable students from around the globe to download Microsoft developer and design tools at no charge. Note: You must be at least 18 years old or have otherwise reached the age of majority in the place (province, state or country) where you live, or if not, your parent or legal guardian must accept the Microsoft DreamSpark software license terms on your behalf, in order for you to download and use the software.(source)
A couple of months ago I was looking into the whole DreamSpark thing and I realized that India was not listed among the countries where Dream Spark was available. I fired off an e-mail to Channel 8 asking the details of the countries where it was available back then. I got this as a reply...
We are initially launching in 11 countries, targeting millions of students in the United States, the United Kingdom, Canada, China, Germany, France, Finland, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland and Belgium. If your country isn’t listed, don’t worry, just stay tuned as we continue to add more locations. By 2009, we expect to have DreamSpark available to virtually ALL students around the world.I guess Microsoft did actually stick to their plans. I recently saw the ads on TV as well. DreamSpark is an incredible initiative. I hope they add Microsoft Office into the scheme as well.

Free music downloads using Google and gBlack.org
gBlack.org is not just another one of the many forms of 'black' Google(s) available on the internet. It's just Google but with a black skin and gBlack particularly has a ton of other nifty tricks which a normal user might not be able to use in google. A friend of mine found this site.
gBlack.org is totally awesome because it allows you to do a google search for specific file types under a tab called Ghack. It does away with all the typing necessary to pull it off in a vanilla google search. And this feature can be used or rather abused to find free music and download it. To do that just use the following steps or see the picture-
Click for bigger view
1. Open gblack.org.
2. Click on Ghack or directly use this link to go to the Ghack page.
3. Tyoe in the name of the song/artist/album.
4. Select mp3/rm.
5. Click on Hack Search and you are good to go.
6. Find your file and download.
Do tell me if this helped you and you are free to ask any doubts.

Exams , trips and other bullshit!!
On the other hand, I started playing Legend of Zelda - Ocarina of Time [thanks to a friend of mine]. I've only just started but even now I can feel that the game deserves every praise it has got. It is just brilliant! I read up on the story on wikipedia and it was just amazing. Maybe now this will inspire me to make some Legend of Zelda wallpapers and tags and whatnot.
I'm in short supply of inspiration. It is affecting both my writing and my photoshop. The last time I worked on something enthusiastically was when I was making stuff for my blog's overall design.
Well bye for now, have to study some sociology as well.

Adobe develops amazing video manipulation tech
I just saw this video on engadget and it blew my mind. Finally someone was making something that I had been wishing for since a long time. This technology allows users to interact with objects inside the video, i.e., it makes it possible for you to interact with say 1 car in the video without affecting the whole frame. You know what videos speak louder than words, so here have a look.

Irony. Oh the irony!
The whole world knows about the terrorist attack on Mumbai that commenced on Nov 26th, 2008. It was a horrific day not just for the city or the people held hostage, but for the whole nation as well. Terrorists holed up at three locations - The Taj , The Trident(Oberoi) and Nariman House. The first two being world class hotels and Nariman House, a residential building of the jewish community in Mumbai.
The heart of the nation cries out for the victims and the soldiers who have sacrificed their lives while protecting the people and repelling the terrorists. And while all of this is going on you get this in your newspaper, that too on the front page -
It is the kind of thing that makes you wonder if our media has lost sensitivity. How can your morals even allow you to put up an advertisement of a new year party on the same page that have reports on one of the most horrifying terrorist attacks in the history of the nation that took a life toll of 180+ !? Take a look at the rest of the news on the front page. Sad reports of the terrorist attack are found throughout the page which ends with an obituary of a martyr, the late Ashok Kamte, and a party ad!? Irony can have no better definition than this. People dying on one side and people having a bash somewhere else...
Ad placement FAIL!

A working design for now!
Here's a list of stuff I want to add in my theme -
1. A top bar with navigation links.
2. Rounded corners without having to go spiffy.
3. A better header image.
4. Align the header with other features.
5. Page numbers at the end of the blog.
6. A three column footer
And some other stuff that I haven't thought of yet..
Relative Stability!
Stuff to do now -
1. Study for my English Exam
2. Write a guest post on one of my friends' blog
3. Go to sleep.
PS - I saw 2 girls 1 cup and well I was utterly revolted. Will blog about my experience some other day.
PPS - Check out the cool new header. Decided to change the tag-line a bit. Will think of something better when I'm done with the theme. It's still not final though, just something to keep me hanging.
